Connect Greater Bendigo is a City of Greater Bendigo initiative. It is a self-serve portal that allows the Bendigo community to find and connect with local sporting clubs and community groups. A highlighly intricate project, we provided a full end-to-end service with stakeholder engagement, scoping, design, and prototyping followed by development in the Drupal content management system.

Scoping
Stakeholder Engagement and Detailed Scope Documentation
At the outset of the project we met with three stakeholder groups – the Bendigo community, City of Greater Bendigo staff, and community and sporting club leaders – to get their input into the strategic direction and desired features and functionality for the website.
This directly informed a detailed scope documentation process, where every feature and functional capability was outlined to ensure that the remainder of the project delivered on the goals and met the needs of user audiences.
Design
Mockup Design and Functional Prototype
Next up, we designed pixel-perfect mockups of every page type and feature on the website, providing the mockups for review as a clickable online preview.
With the mockups signed off we moved on to creating a functional prototype in our preferred web development platform, Webflow, so that we had full creative control over the visual design and front end theming.
Development
Drupal Development and User Generated Content Functionality
Nearing completion, we now hand the functional prototype code and assets over to a specialist Drupal developer to convert into a fully functional site on the Drupal CMS – this is important because the City of Greater Bendigo operates a Drupal-based web architecture.
The final website features:
- Search functionality
- List filtering and sorting
- Signup as a community group
- Live API integration for events to other websites
- Community group users can create and publish group info and events
- Internal review and approval process
- And a too many more small features to count!!!
